Growing up in Erie Pennsylvania, Stevens began a musical career that has since matured into a sophisticated and unique style of songwriting and production. With an arsenal of instruments and a passion for each, he emerges as a committed and competent songwriter and producer. He exists in the spirit of the classical auteur, writer, producer, and engineer.
"I'm still highly influenced by the songs of my youth - from the old jazz greats like Stan Getz and Gene Harris to the girl groups of the 60s, and "anything by the Ronettes."
Still, his style is much more akin to a new and modern genre of songwriting than it is reminiscent of the sounds from an earlier era. His songs range from rich pop ballads to highly rhythmic, neo-disco groove. Despite the awe-inspiring Rocky Mountain landscape just outside his home studio in Boulder Colorado, Stevens ultimately draws his musical style from within.
"I'm always naturally producing it seems," he says, "The music appears to be perpetual over here and I welcome it in any form."
And the effort has paid off. Stevens' music has caught the attention of music supervisors and music publishers from coast to coast, and within one month of releasing his first catalog, he was offered a publishing deal. The wide range of songs and slick production on Stevens' current catalog is helping to define an emerging genre of smooth, sophisticated pop.
