Jerry and The Champions is a San Francisco bay area Funk group featuring the music of songwriter and keyboardist, Jerry Champion. The group is known for its raw high energy funk sound and its stage productions.
An original Funk group featuring the music of songwriter and keyboardist, Jerry Champion. Jerry, the leader is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and has a strong background in Funk & R&B having grown up listening to bands like Sly & The Family Stone, Parliament Funkadelic and Earth, Wind & Fire.
He has produced several albums of his own material on the Clayboard Records record label and has performed at various venues and Festivals through out the San Francisco bay area including Rasselas Jazz Club in SF, Velma’s Sunday Blues & Jazz Club in SF, Carnival SF, SF Juneteeth, and has also performed in Las Vegas at the Fitzgerald Casino & Hotel. The band’s stage show is exciting, high energy, and transports the audience into a Funk fantasy land through the use of props, elaborate costume changes and theatrical lighting.
Most recently, the band received international acclaim in both France and Japan and was included on a compilation album released on Boogie Times Records in France. The band’s song “Do It” from their “Be By My Side” can be found on “The Great Collector’s Funky Music 80’s Vol. 11 on Boogie Times Records.
