When I was just a young boy and I led a life of sin
I knew that my salvation was a mess
So I took my list of sins into a big dark box
Where to kind Father Tom I would confess

And I said “Father please forgive me, you know that I have sinned
My last confession was so long ago
I laughed and I joked, I cheated and I smoked,
I visited a girl in Mexico”

He said “son you sins are bad, the worst I've ever heard,
And I fear that your salvation's in distress
Come back to me tonight for some prayers and some penance
And Father will take of all the rest

I did a little penance he said would wash away
Every single sin that I had
But the penance was our secret and the sins would come back
If I ever told my mom or dad
Just what kind of penance that I had

Father please forgive me, for I'm about to sin
My last confession's gonna be today
Please turn your head a take my offering of lead
I'm sending you to where the angels play
