Blues-Blues


Down deep in the bayous of NYC
I met a couple players who wanna be
Their idea of blues came from overseas
They call it authenticity

They got a Marshall amp
Got a flamey Les Paul
And when it’s time to play
It’s always balls to the wall

Now I ain’t sayin’ I’m the purest of the pure
But I’ve been digging the roots since 1964
I listened to Muddy and John Lee Hooker too
And Howlin’ Wolf singin’ ‘bout that girl Doin’ the Do

Wasn’t born in the Delta, didn’t migrate to the north
Ain’t got no mojo, don’t play on no back porch
Still attracted to that Blues flame like the proverbial moth

Now I’m not sure just what I’m tryin’ to say
Sometimes I think the Blues don’t mean as much today
As it did when giants roamed the land
Baring their souls with a guitar in their hands
