The tv screen unfurls, there’s Michael Palin
Travelling the world, jovial and smiling
Small boats on the sea
Seems so wild and free from another age

Cairo to Nepal, crowded railway stations
Slow boat to Bengal, drinking with Croatians 
Tea beneath a tree
Seems so wild and free from my gilded cage

But, everybody knows, things’ll get better
Nothing stays the same, there’s always better weather
Shining down on me, that’s where I will be in another age

Friends and alcohol, over there’s a drummer
Playing up a storm
Seems so bright and warm in another age

Tango dancers sprawl, prima ballerinas
Nothing like today
Seems so far away in my gilded cage

But everybody knows, escape is round the corner
The cavalry’s arrived, tearing down the borders
Hope is what we have
