Brand New Day

I’ve been living my life 
On the edge of a knife
In hotel rooms
By candlelight
I’ve been trying to lose 
These soft city shoes
But I can’t give away 
These terminal blues

I sold my guitar 
For a cheap little car
Though it won’t pay the bills 
Or make me a star
But I’m tired of the city 
And the same old lines
These roller-coast-addicts 
All searching for signs

And I’m tired of the sound 
Of the record machines
These manicured posers 
Who glisten and gleam
And these stale affairs 
That goes nowhere
And this broken heart 
That we all share

The songs that I sing 
I’ve been singing for years
But they don’t mean a thing 
If nobody hears
And these restless dreams 
In silence scream 
And disappear 
In blood red streams

So maybe I’ll drive 
My car all night
Drive that car 
Till the morning light
And maybe I’ll find 
A place to stay
And find myself 
A brand new day
