I remember that summer, though it's so long ago
The smile from her heart and her eyes all aglow
She asked for a song, what it was, I don' know
Some old tune 'bout a Tennessee farmer.

You see the twilight has come into her life and mine
But we laugh and just say that we're aging like wine
But it makes me much warmer when I think 'bout the time
I was the lady's night in shining armor

Thought the fingers are feeble she smiles as I try
To play her the tune that once won her hand
She remembers a fiddler with fire in his fingers
She still strikes a spark in this old fiddle man

Now we sit on the porch, the swing gently sways
She says, "Play me that tune" Lord she still has her ways
And we're back to that summer of our courting days
And she tells me that I'm still her charmer
