Singer-songwriter-guitarist Phil Circle is a veteran Chicago musician with eight official albums and reviews that describe his work as "just what the doctor ordered" and "from the master class." About his 1997 debut, one national magazine said it "defies Rock, Jazz, and Blues" and his recent full band release confirmed to Chicago media that Phil Circle is "one of our town's most unique voices." With 30 years of music and studio time booked to start his ninth album, Phil Circle still has it; he even wrote a book.
Phil Circle wrote a book on being an independent musician, "The Outback Musician's Survival Guide; One Guy's Story of Surviving as an Independent Musician." His book is hitting the online shelves and will soon launch into Chicago's Indie bookseller market through brick and mortar stores, and the e-book will become available immediately soon after. Reviews are stellar, and he now gets to add author to his resumé. As a singer-songwriter-guitarist, he's also been a long-standing music coach to aspiring and working musicians while producing all of his albums and continuing to write new material with the same genre-bending approach. Phil's rule regarding style is based on something Duke Ellington said; "If it sounds good, it is good."
His first two albums were with his band Guilty and received a great deal of positive press, partly because Phil has a Do It Yourself mindset. After dissolving that band, he released a complete album of solo material recorded live in various studios, a live album with Blues violinist Ruby Harris, then another full band effort and a few more Acoustic studio releases.
