Motown did have a jazz section but never released the recordings I understand they have been bought by a company who is not interested in releasing them so I thought it would be interesting to arrange a recording in their style I think it works very well it is real fusion of the two styles danceable   Keywords: Motown Jazz Instrumental beat Black music Detroit USA exploitation hits pop saxophone cool danceable background muzak Hotel Restaurants ringtones easy listening When Motown started they were interested in Instrumental Jazz but their producers wanted Gospel because it was very difficult for other record companies to get the gospel feel and they did not want to be copied by white artists so they recruited from gospel artists and white artists like Pat Boone found it impossible to compete with singers who could produce non chromatic phrases which was the root of Blues and Gospel At the time perhaps the best gospel singer was Born on October 26, 1911, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mahalia Jackson started singing as a child at Mount Moriah Baptist Church and went on to become one of the most revered gospel figures in the U.S. Her recording of “Move On Up a Little Higher” was a major hit and she subsequently became an international figure for music lovers from a variety of backgrounds. She worked with artists like Duke Ellington and Thomas A. Dorsey and paved the way for Motown artists refusing to sing pop
