It’s probably not a good idea
to tell me you know just how I feel.
Or to think you know how long it should take
for my heart to heal.

I know suffering’s part of the deal we made      
with this planet when we were born.
Our divinity grows from grief’s debris
when we find the courage to mourn.

                         
It probably is a good idea
to learn how to grieve as we go.
So when someone we love suffers a loss,
our hearts will know just where to go.

If we do our own grieving, we won’t be afraid
That our joy is forever stillborn.
