Mockingbird is singing
What’s he singing for?
It’s nowhere near the daybreak
I can’t sleep anymore.

Pacing makes me restless
No money for the rent
My man got mad and he slammed the door
I don’t know where he went.

I'd have never guessed that I’d be left alone at 3 am
I wonder if he’ll come back again.

You never know what is waiting round the bend,
What you’ve gotta let go of, let out and let in
The dark of night, just can’t see what’s down the road
What can you do if you know you don’t know
What’s around the bend.

It’s cold here in the kitchen
Can’t believe I’m still awake.
My favorite cup slipped from my hand
I stood and watched it break.

Making a mosaic
From shards of shattered glass
Sure can’t tell the future
From the fragments of my past.

Just outside the window sings a mockingbird
He’s singing every song that he’s heard.
