US songwriters Spayed Koolie is a duo of David Dorr and Neal Phillips. Their focus is songwriting, but they also play in diverse venues expanding the band to six pieces for bigger events. Phillips' song "Songwriter" received a standing ovation from Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). The duo's song "Closer" is part of a music pitch to Sony, and is considered for artist Jake Owen's next album. Additionally, the duo has performed at Nashville's Commodore Grille and opeMontgomery-Gentry, Kellie Pickler, and .38 Special.
The name "Spayed Koolie" was chosen via David Dorr's dad's suggestion to commemorate the famous Oklahoma-swing fiddle player, spelled Spade Cooley. Between the two, Dorr and Phillips have over 100 original songs, Dorr's ideas coming from a rollercoaster life filled with successful and failed relationships, while Phillips' are on the lighter side and also focus on matching what is considered "radio friendly" songwriting. Dorr specializes in instrumental tracks featuring a cigar box guitar while Phillips adds both acoustic and electric violin perfectly to enrich any song. Phillips' corny song "Catholic Country Song" had him listed as "One to Watch" by NSAI in March 2015. Later this year, Phillips will be using a one-of-a-kind, 3D printed electric violin from Valencia College to perform the National Anthem multiple times at Major League Soccer's Orlando City Lions games. Dorr and Phillips are musically committed to writing the best songs possible and selling or licensing them for use by the masses.
