Chicago-based band Dead Freddie is a Punk-Pop Phenomenon with a vibe that combines elements of Garage, Punk, Ska, and Power-Pop to create a high-energy, yet melodic, sound. Originally founded in 1980, the current group has been together since 2013. Paying homage to earlier genres, the band adds its own modern edge. Each hook-laden tune tells its own special story that grabs you and makes you want to listen! In 2016, the group released a six-song EP "If I Knew What I Wanted" and later cut a 12-song LP self-titled "Dead Freddie."
The current members of Dead Freddie are Gintas Buinevicius on Drums, Joe Wood on Guitar, Steve Foley on Bass Guitar, and Donatas Ramanauskas on Lead Vocals and Punk Accordion. Their influences include the Sex Pistols, Ramones, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, The Clash, and by proto-Punk artists like Iggy Pop and Lou Reed.
The Scientist pursues Mary on the beach. So very dark and funky, with a groove between emo, goth, ska and reggae. Great for opening sequence of TV/Movie in tropical/Carribean setting. Or spaghetti western. Shades of The Police, Joe Jackson and English Beat. Male Vocals, Dangerous, Dark Music
Warhol/Pop Art/Comic Book Girl is the inspiration for this Power Pop classic, with an Echo & The Bunnymen kind of rhythm and sound. Male Vocals, Indie Rock, Pop Punk
This song dives into fearing the banality of a life filled with meaningless schooling followed by the boring drudgery of a purposeless job while still holding out for a dream for something better. Male Vocals, Indie Rock, Punk
Popularity rules all, even if you end up all alone. Miss popularity fails to find friends and happiness. The driving, Ramones-style beat pushes the pace of the song. Good for opening of an action scene. Also touches of Talking Heads, The Knack and The Clash, Male Vocals, Action, Adventure Rock
When two forces in a relationship vie for control, sometimes walking out is the temporary solution. Judas Priest meets Sex Pistols with an arabesque twist. Male Vocals, Rock, Hard Rock
"The Girl From Ipanema" informs this angsty Cha-Cha rhythmed semi-acoustic number that goes back to the days of teen dances, summer camp, boys becoming men, girls turning into women. The beautiful interplay between super-reverb guitar and melodic, melancholy accordion set the tone for this summer-y, Male Vocals, Themes, Theme Music (pending)
The agony and ecstasy of being in a band. Epic and emotive, with hints of Bruce Springsteen, it is a semi-biographical glimpse at a moment in the lives of young, still-hopeful musicians. Great for opening and closing credits for rock movie. Also hints of Joy Division and Talking Heads, Male Vocals, Dramatic, Hectic Music
A song about the old 'hood, but more so about not backing down to the bullies, no matter the consequences. Melodic, Ramones-inspired punk blended with Huey Lewis and The News-like horns. Male Vocals, Rock, 60s Rock
Part Three of the Mary trilogy (Mary’s Waiting, Active Partition (both from Dead Freddie EP “If I Knew What I Wanted” and Mary Left) in which Mary finally leaves Billy. The jubilant chorus is followed by verses more that are at times ambiguous. Has flavors of Elvis Costello and Green Day. Male Vocals, Rock, Pop Rock
A mysterious, dangerous story of someone who thinks she is a porpoise... with a visceral connection to the narrator. A little ska, a little funk and a hard Judas Priest-like chunk. Great for an opening scene in a mystery movie. Male Vocals, Dramatic, Warm Ups
Undertones of Roxy Music's "Love is the Drug" and "Both Ends Burning" give mood to this song about guilt, fear, regret and "the small little package with a hurricane brain". Male Vocals, Rock, 70s Rock
Pure, sweet Power Pop. The "princess" is a pilot flying high until she heads for the big crash. The soaring harmonies evoke the cheery side of the Elvis Costello-Nick Lowe-Dave Edmunds troika. Perfect for a movie or show about a privileged girl that gets her due. Male Vocals, Rock, British Invasion
This austere rendition of a rhythm & blues chug strips the song down to its essence of a single beautiful guitar, a melancholy accordion and angst-ridden vocals in a story that describes a search for meaning. Can music save one’s soul? Many things to ponder riding “back and forth on the El train”. Male Vocals, Americana, Americana (pending)
Fast-Hard Punk inflected with Punk Polka, about people that float in and out of a musician's life and the insanity it sometimes begets. Think: The Clash meet Weird Al Yankovic. Male Vocals, Rock, Hard Rock
