Stranger things have happened… If K's were given on the basis of band names alone, The Blessed Virgin Larry, the brainchild of corpse-painted, besuited madman and Kansas City, Missouri native Gamma Raye, would be proud owners of a 5K review right off the bat. With its wryly cheesy electronic beats, surf rock guitars and The Addams Family, 60s-style horror-goth theatrics, is what really makes Gamma Raye’s sophomore album ‘TVBL’ such an intriguing proposition and just how different it sounds to pretty much everything else around. Some of this is just plain silly, for sure. But on the whole, from the eerie crooning and slide guitar of ‘I’m Killing You’ to the ‘80s goth’n’glitter glamfest of ‘Son Of A Bitch’, ‘TVBL’ is one bizarre party album you don’t want to pass you by.
