California artist Greg Beattie has won many songwriting and performing awards, including the Kerrville New Folk Competition, Falcon Ridge Emerging Artists, West Coast International Song Contest Grand Prize, and the West Coast Songwriters Song of the Year. He also has songs placed in movies and TV (Anywhere But Here, Fame, Angel), and on numerous compilations. A dedicated writer and performer, Greg's styles span the universe of popular music -- Pop, Blues, Rock, Folk, Country, and whatever gives the lyrics life. He also sings and plays guitar in the band Calaveras.
Greg Beattie has been writing songs since age 12, when he got his first guitar, a $25 Sears Silvertone. During his college years, he played in coffee houses in Stockton, California. In 1993, he formed the band Calaveras with his wife, Victoria Blythe, and their friend and guitarist, Dave Decker. Greg's song Ready to Fly has been covered by several other performers, featured in several compilations, and played at the opening ceremonies of the world figure skating championships. The band plays mainly in the San Francisco Bay Area, but has toured much of the west and some of the east. They've been chosen to perform at three consecutive premier showcases at Folk Alliance Conferences in the West and Southwest. He also writes for his wife Victoria's pop/jazz act.
Between gigs, Greg graduated from Harvard Law School and is now a corporate attorney helping private technology and consumer goods companies. He is also former chairman of the Acoustic Vortex, a nonprofit that promotes acoustic music, and is currently a director of Bread & Roses, which sponsors over 600 concerts per year to people confined to prisons, homeless shelters, hospitals, etc.
