Brandon Patton writes heart-sore longings and manic freak-outs that capture the difficulty of steering when you can't find the wheel. File under acoustic, self-deprecatory, tender-hearted ex-rock, a la Elliott Smith, Aimee Mann, Eels, Wilco and Badly Drawn Boy. In 1998 Brandon formed the hard rock trio "Three Against Four" with guitarist Anand Nayak (currently of Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem) and recorded the album "Some of Us are Here."
In 1998, Drummer Jay Skowronek (currently of Maxeen) joined Brandon Patton's band, Three Against Four, and they began touring extensively, playing dates at CBGBs in New York, the Middle East in Boston, and colleges across the Midwest and Northeast. By 2000 the group had built up a following, schmoozed at the Sundance Film Festival, and placed music in a Hollywood movie.
They decided to disband in 2000, and recorded the album "Hey, Sparkle Eyes" as their last act. Songs from that album were later heard on episodes of MTV Real World, MTV Pop Stars, and Monster Garage (Discovery Channel).
"Should Confusion," completed in the fall of 2003 and released in 2004, is a chronicle of the journeys Brandon has undertaken since striking out on his own. The difficulty of long distance relationships (3100 Miles), stark self-appraisal (Counting the Paces) and memories of an abused friend mingle with lighter notes on classroom fantasies. The threads that run throughout are Brandon's thoughtful, honest lyrics and his expressive acoustic guitar playing.
