Jef Chandler is an eclectic singer and songwriter who writes memorable hooks and melodies in the Country, Rock, and Folk genres. A South Carolina native, he has toured the southeast for the past two decades, opening for such acts as Scott Miller, Southern Culture on the Skids, and Billy Pilgrim. Jef is currently performing both solo and with the band The Bad Popes, and his songs have found airplay on radio stations throughout the US and Europe. Mike Miller of The State In Columbia said that Jef writes “exquisite stories told with a clarity of insight and a wry sense of humor.”
Jef Chandler is a founding member of the bands Big Brown Bowl, who released one album, and The Bad Popes, who are currently finishing a second album. He has released three solo albums since 1999, and Genevieve Will at the web site "Indie" remarks that they are “[strangely] successful not only in merging Country, Rock, down-home Blues, Jam, and Pop, but also in tailoring... lyrics and tone to fit individual songs separate styles.” In 2005, Jef's song "Empire of Idle Thoughts" charted on the European Country charts. He cites artists such as Paul Simon, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, and The Beatles as major influences.
