Count legendary Fairport Convention stickman Dave Mattacks and XTC guitargonaut Dave Gregory among the stellar guests on board for "Cycle," the long-awaited collaboration between ex-Headlight and Roger McGuinn sideman Steve Robinson, and award-winning singer/songwriter Ed Woltil of The Ditchflowers. Their songs veer from sunny to frosty, poptastic to sarcastic, quirky to stately, and back again. "Brilliant melodies, beautiful harmonies and songwriting that captures the best of Anglo and American Pop." -- Curtis Ross, Tampa Tribune
While snarky electric tracks like the Dave Gregory-propelled Liberty Daze and Elastic Man show that Robinson and Woltil aren't above a little tart, tongue-in-cheek social commentary, it's the warm-hearted, acoustic-based odes to daughters (Butterflies/Who You Are) and old friends (Hello, Hello/Godspeed) that paint them as the softies that they really are.
Dave Mattacks (Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Elton John) contributes stellar drum tracks to Love Somebody and The Boy From Down The Hill. Gregory contributes some fabulous Harrisonesque slide guitar to the vaguely Kinksy/XTC-ish Elastic Man and in an astonishing, barely disguised nod to Queen guitarist Brian May, helps turn the anti-oil diatribe, Liberty Daze into a bit of a jaw-dropper.
"Every cut is a crystalline gem" --Luke Torn, Uncut Magazine
Snappy, guitar-driven folk-rock song about old friends reconnecting after years apart. Sounds a little like REM with a Beatle-style hooky chorus with layered harmonies. Male Vocals, Folk, Folk Rock
Upbeat folky song about about expressing emotional support amid the emotional upheaval of a friend moving away to a new town. Male Vocals, Folk, Folk Pop
Gentle rumination on making the most of your life. Built around acoustic guitar and layered harmonies reminiscent of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. Male Vocals, Folk, Folk Pop
Biting observation on the decline of civility in the political forum, and vulnerable people being manipulated by idealogues propagating culture wars, with no regard to the damage they do. Has a swirling, catchy worldbeat-ish vibe cloaked in exotic strings, finger bells and tablas. Male Vocals, Folk, Psychedelic Folk
