Count legendary Fairport Convention stickman Dave Mattacks and XTC guitargonaut Dave Gregory among the stellar guests on board for "Cycle," the long-awaited collaboration between ex-Headlight and Roger McGuinn sideman Steve Robinson, and award-winning singer/songwriter Ed Woltil of The Ditchflowers. Their songs veer from sunny to frosty, poptastic to sarcastic, quirky to stately, and back again. "Brilliant melodies, beautiful harmonies and songwriting that captures the best of Anglo and American Pop." -- Curtis Ross, Tampa Tribune
While snarky electric tracks like the Dave Gregory-propelled Liberty Daze and Elastic Man show that Robinson and Woltil aren't above a little tart, tongue-in-cheek social commentary, it's the warm-hearted, acoustic-based odes to daughters (Butterflies/Who You Are) and old friends (Hello, Hello/Godspeed) that paint them as the softies that they really are.
Dave Mattacks (Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Elton John) contributes stellar drum tracks to Love Somebody and The Boy From Down The Hill. Gregory contributes some fabulous Harrisonesque slide guitar to the vaguely Kinksy/XTC-ish Elastic Man and in an astonishing, barely disguised nod to Queen guitarist Brian May, helps turn the anti-oil diatribe, Liberty Daze into a bit of a jaw-dropper.
"Every cut is a crystalline gem" --Luke Torn, Uncut Magazine
Upbeat social commentary on those whose opinions and emotions change depending upon their audience and situation. Could apply to those in personal relationships or shape-shifting politicians. Perfect for election season! Male vocal, piano and acrobatic bass with slide guitar accents. Male Vocals, Pop, Beatles-Pop
Ornate piano-driven ballad that touches upon the little regrets everyone experiences in their lives. Sounds a little like Paul McCartney, Neil Finn and Ron Sexsmith. Features orchestral touches and male lead vocal with expressive counter melody in the last verse. Male Vocals, Pop, Baroque Pop
Bouncy (of course!) piano-based popper that touches upon the ups and downs that come with being a human, falling in love and taking that leap of faith. A bit of a Beatle-style romp with a sprinkling of XTC-style guitar seasoning courtesy of XTC guitargonaut, Dave Gregory. Male Vocals, Pop, Beatles-Pop
Stately and snazzy McCartneyish pop tale replete with harpsichord accompaniment, coquettish lyric and harmonies aplenty. It’s regal, baby! Male Vocals, Pop, Baroque Pop
