Not so very long ago
I had a friend so new
She needed lots of help from me
But I knew what to do

And as the years flew by us
My friend and I would talk
We’d tell each other everything
We’d hold hands as we walked

I watched my friend grow older
And I guess that I did too
For I was not as strong, but then
My friend new what to do

And now my friend’s a mother
With a little friend so new, that
It needs a lot of help from her but
She knows what to do

And so the years fly by us
And so the time we spend
With a friend so dear to help us
From the first day to the end
