HONKY-TONK SINGER


My ma and pa were no good to me;
there were holes in my clothes -
I was always hungry.
They said, “Son, we’re so damn poor,
now you’re sixteen, 
get outta that door”.

Get outta that door.

So I learned how to scavenge
and I learned how to fight;
I learned how to steal 
and about street life.
Living rough in the land of Uncle Sam,
it made me hard -- it made me what I am…

‘Cos, I’m a honky-tonk singer
in a honky-tonk bar;
I like honky-tonk women
and honky-tonk cars.
I’ve got ten dollars
and an old cell-phone,
I own all of nothing ……
the bar is my home.

I like a honky-tonk piano
with steel geetar,
a walking bass and harmonica;
that honky-tonk music
is nectar to my ears
and I’ll sing all night…… 
for just a few beers!
