One Step Forward

Today we took the training wheels from the back of her big-girl’s bike, 
her eyes lit up, her body shook, with sheer delight.
She climbed aboard not knowin’ just how much her life would change,
but deep inside I realized... I’d never be the same.

We took one step forward in to another world. 
One step forward with my baby girl.
This one step forward, though it came so naturally, 
felt like a step away from me.

It seems like only yesterday she was lying in her crib.
Reachin’ for the stars that hung beyond her fingertips.
In no time she was standin’ with my finger a vise-like grip.
We formed a bond and stumbled on; laughin’ when we tripped.
