Women And Alcohol 



When I’m standing here before you in the twilight of my life 
Ranting and a raging and throwing out advice
And talking all about my life well I guess I’ll have to say
That temptation took the best of me and led me far astray
But I can say that I tried and I can say that I survived
Even though the sins of my redemption are far too many to mention
And my conscience weighs so heavy on my pride
Oh my Lord, oh yes indeed; oh, I am bound to concede
It was always women and alcohol that bought out the devil in me
Yes, it’s always women and alcohol that bring out the devil in me

There are times I’ve had throughout my life that make me hold my head in shame
But those moments sometimes make me laugh; I think they’ve kept me sane
If you mix your women like you mix your drink the end is just the same
There’s a night of fun, then in the morning sun, a yearning, burning pain
Oh can’t you see, I never meant; that you should find the note she sent?
But the moral of the story when you threw it all before me, was to tell the truth and say that I’d repent
Oh indeed, oh can’t you see? She never meant that much too me

On that night I crawled round many bars talking to some dames
By the time we’d trawled our share of jars, I’d forgotten all their names
Placed fortunes on a roll of dice trying to impress
But lost the shirt upon my back, another to confess 
Staggered home at six o’clock; wallet bare and liver shot
Praying for a change of fate; hoping that I’d suffer state amnesia for a night forever lost
