A drink to the summer 

The first thing I saw as I walked through that door on the stage she was playing guitar
An old Irish song, but those gas works have gone and I downed my first pint at the bar
Through the smoke and the gloom at the back of the room the crowd were starting to cheer
And the drunks at the front were performing their stunts as the landlord kept serving the beer
And she sang let’s all drink to the summer; charge up your tankards as one (Those long winters’ nights have all gone)
So we toasted her health, good fortune and wealth
In a shout at the end of the song
And she sang it’s the first day of summer; it’s time to celebrate
So raise up your glass; it’s summer at last
And you know it’s never too late; (never too late)

And we all sang along with the songs and some they started to dance

There was no give and take at the start of the break as everyone wanted a fill 
Just a scrum at the bar; no chance of a jar and I bet some are waiting there still
Like a chain at a fire passing pints high over heads to the balcony stair
Then a man shouted out they’re coming back out and the rhythm began on the snare

By the end of the night a bit of a fight had started the old fashioned way
Nothing much worse than a handbag and curse and a rematch planned the next day
Well what can you say after such a great day when you’ve had all your fill of good beer?
With the girl from the band in the palm of your hand on the best night I’ve had out this year
