The Indian summer has come and gone
Where did it go – I’ll never know
Autumn breezes have sung their song
Winter is closing in

I see the shift in the clouds above
Hovering low – it’s looking like snow
I hear the sigh of the mourning dove
She’s longing for signs of the spring

Coyotes hide under  the shadows
The air is cold and darkness is setting in – moving in

All of a sudden the world stands still 
Nobody stirs – not even the birds
The sky is shedding white tears that spill
Onto the frozen ground

I welcome the warmth of the fire so bright
Grateful for home – so good to be home
But as nature struggles on this blustery night
