Tinted inlaid marble mirrored ballrooms now that's style

You could sit out on the veranda play tennis or shuffleboard
or swim in the spring pool that is if you could afford

It lived through Hurricane Betsy and through Hurricane Camille
But a shopping mall said businessmen would be a better deal

5,000 watched for the dynamite to blow
But when the smoke had cleared the crowd cheered she didn't go, she didn't go

It took 3 blasts to level it, 2 more than were in the plan
the demotion company said "Never underestimate a woman" 

Oh why did they tear it down - I wish it was still around
It was such a grand ole hotel - I tell you I cried when the Edgewater fell

Gone are the great big oaks, the swimming pool
Gone is the grand ballroom and that is so cruel
It was a grand place larger than a city block
But now there's just a Sears and an ugly parking lot.

Today when you drive past the site I hope that you will know now
There once there was a grand hotel where people would go
Stop take a moment and bow your head in prayer
To save historic landmarks from greed and business ways
