Licking The Mirror

Jane is a beauty and she uses it well
She’s fixed all of the curves 
Where her genes let her down
She turns all the heads of the boys and girls in this town
She is physically perfect and with herself she’s in love
She’s addicted to her image
and she can’t get enough

 So, she’s licking the mirror again
She’s drinking in all that her money has spent
She’s tasting her beauty 
but, losing her friends
She’s licking the mirror again

John is in junk bonds and trading is his game
It’s down to a science
He shuffles numbers around
He stares down from his mansion over-looking the town
He is mechanically perfect and he smugly stands tall
He’s sure of his brilliance
and he’s keeping it all

So, he’s licking the mirror again
He’s feeling his power, his smile condescends
He’s feeding his ego
but, starving his friends
He’s licking the mirror again

He’s in love with the love of himself
and he’ll share his cold reflection
but, he’ll give nothing else

We are the best or so we’ve been told
Our ways are the best ways
If you’re in doubt look around
We’re the number one people in the number one town
We are better than ever whenever we’re judged
but, we’re squinting in low light
and the image is smudged

Still we’re licking the mirror again
Though the reflection is happy, dumb and content
Were high on the high hilltop
but, soon to descend
We’re licking the mirror again 
We’re toasting our virtue again and again
We’re tasting the means, ignoring the ends
We’re licking the mirror again
