I put on my jeans and a party mind, like so many times
I heard the night call me downtown, my long lost friend,
First stop the place we used to meet, I could almost see the old gang there,
Ordering up another round, everybody laughing

Whatever happened to the trains, just happened to me tonight,
No one nowhere knows my name, but it’s alright
Still even an old steel rail helps move a lot of grain
Whatever happened to the trains?

I said hello to that old juke box, I bet I fed it two hundred dollars
But it’s forgotten me and those Bob Seger songs
I was the King of Friday night, but that was before I met her
But now they all look so young, and I’m invisible

Whatever happened to the trains, just happened to me tonight,
No one, nowhere knows my name, but I’ll be alright
Still even this broken glass can hold a lot of rain

These young guys are cut and really built for speed
Braggin’ and struttin’ but scratchin’ on the “Eight”
Hey girl what’s your name?  Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Well nothing rhythms with “Tiffany” anyway

Last of the lonely souls, I never thought I’d feel this way
When all you get’s, “Excuse me sir,”  you know it’s time to go
So turn on that neon moon, let it light my way back home
Tomorrow is a working day and nothing rhythms with “misery” anyway

Whatever happened to the trains, just happened to me tonight,

Even though it’s another year gone straight down the drain

I shouldn’t have broken her heart because I think it’s come back on me again
