The trepidation nighttime brings

Way down south in the land of gumbo
At night into the swamp they stumble
When they come out they're not the same 
They've been touched by the rougarou

And when the rougarou touches you
There's nothing more that you can do
The demon will reside in you
 One hundred and one days
And if another touches you
They too become a rougarou
So watch out you 
For the rougarou

One night old Joe took his piro
Poling along the bank of the bayou
Hunting for a gator going to make some Gator stew
When he came back his eyes were red
The demon dancing in his head
He ain't hunting gators now
He's coming after you

Joe went home and touched his woman
Soon at the mouth they both are foaming
Now they're both out late night roaming
Trouble's gonna brew
Cause when Joe touched her that was a sin
And now she's bound to do him in
The demon makes her kill the one
Who made her a rougarou
