With her kiss still on my lips, I watched my home disappear
Another wide-eyed wanderer saw the new world come near
At last we dropped anchor, ‘neath  Liberty’s flowing gown
The stars and stripes were flying, over this new kid in town

I queue up on a Friday, scrubbing off the tar
Moan about the money then I spend it in a bar
They love to hear me singing, and join me in the craic
Singing songs of home, as I’m laying down the track

I met a girl from Brooklyn, I guess she liked my charm
We went out dancing, and I held her in my arms
Though the years have flown by, I still see that girl
She’s been my hope, she’s been my strength
She’s still my heart and soul

Through good times and bad, we’ve been together hand in hand
Now our boy’s far away fighting on the burning sand
But if he’s his Father’s son, he’ll build bridges of his own
I pray the day won’t be too long till he comes marching home
