Summer has a kitten
She got it yesterday
She picked it up so many times
The kitten ran away

Summer caught her kitten
And wouldn’t let it go
And then the kitten scratched her –
Why?  She didn’t know

Now the kitten’s hiding
Under Summer’s bed
“I think that she’s afraid of me!”
That’s what our Summer said

“She won’t come eat her cat food
All she does is hiss
She won’t even drink the milk
I just put in her dish!”

“You are MY kitten, kitty
And I want you to do
Everything I say and all the things
I want you to!”

If only Summer’s cat could talk
The tiny thing would say,
“I love you, but please let me be
Or I will run away!”

So Summer left the cat alone
All day she rocked her doll
Then suddenly she saw the kitten
Sneaking down the hall

She wanted to go get it
But she sat there with her doll
And that was just so hard to do
The hardest thing of all

She watched the kitten eat and play
Just like a happy cat
And in a while the kitten climbed
Right up in Summer’s lap

Now her kitten’s not afraid
She doesn’t scratch or bite
And when it’s dark she snuggles up
With Summer every night!
