Another drink another round

I told her I was heading for the summer December sun, to seek a better life, a brand new start
I said it would be grand if she would like to come, we’d busk our way, she’d sing, I’d play guitar
But tonight lets celebrate; you know it would be great, for our last night in this town, to paint it red
Well the liquor may be strong, but in the morning we’ll be gone and I’m sure I remember that I said

Another drink, another round, another bar, another town
Another song to sing, I’ll sing a song with you
And when the last bell has been rung and the last song has been sung
We’ll go and find another bar, I’ll take you there; it’ll not be far
Somewhere where we can start anew; just me and you

She said, “I’ll let you know before the morning sun, but I’ve got to see if you’re man enough for me
We’ll go out on the town and get those glasses down and if you’re still standing then I’ll see”
I said “baby, have no fear, I can take my beer, I’ll show you that my pencil’s full of lead”
But we’d hardly hit the town, and my head was spinning round and I’m sure this was the last thing that I said

I woke up in the morning with my throat burning dry and dynamite exploding in my head 
I found I was alone; she’d vanished in the night, leaving just a letter by the bed 
Said “I’ve got the tickets safe, I’ve packed them in my case, and when you awake I’ll be flying for the sun. 
I slipped Valium in your beer, and now I’m out of here, so how does it feel to be well and truly stung?”
