American artist David Becker is a two-time Grammy-nominated guitarist, composer, producer, and leader of the David Becker Tribune. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, they released several critically acclaimed recordings while touring the US extensively. DBT's first label was MCA, which released two recordings, including the Jazz radio chart-topper Siberian Express which was co-produced by Ken Caillat. Becker can also be heard on two tracks of the Colbie Caillat recording Breakthrough, and on four tracks of All of You.
The David Becker Tribune's latest release, Batavia, was voted as one of the Best World Music recordings by World Music Central. One of their most personal recordings to date, Batavia captures the tones of the life and times of the Becker family arriving, living, becoming separated by war, and reuniting on the islands of the former Dutch East Indies (present day Indonesia). David incorporates many indigenous sounds of the islands including gamalan and keroncong, especially on "Bali" and "Selamat Pagi." Tributes to his mother and grandmother are heard on "Tien & Edith" and "Li." An amazing achievement on a project so near to their hearts, Batavia contains all the emotions of love lost and found through the use of rhythm and guitar.
