Lyrics:
The Stars At Putter’s Rock
I packed my blanket and flashlight,
I packed my map of the stars,
I planned to find the Big Dipper,
Jupiter, Venus and Mars.
I filled up my lunch box with goodies,
Precisely at nine o’clock,
Out I went through the backyard gate,
And down to Putter’s Rock.
I spread my blanket on the grass,
And laid on my back to gaze,
But when I looked up to see the stars,
All that I saw was haze.
Not a twinkling star did I see,
Not even a slice of the moon,
On that hot hazy night by Putter’s Rock,
Smack in the middle of June.
So I sat up and lifted the lid,
Of the lunch box I’d just packed,
And I sat out there under the haze,
Eating my stargazer’s snack.
I wished to see one little star,
When a firefly flashed his light—
Then all of his cousins, brothers and pals,
Filled in for the stars that night.
So, if you go out stargazing,
And you don’t find the sky aglow—
Please come on down to Putter’s Rock
For a first-rate firefly show!!
