He's home for the holidays lookin' around the place
and wrestlin' with the blues.
Haunted by memories of lost loves, broken dreams
and times he played the fool.

Then he spots a picture of his first 10-speed. 
And thinks about the times he raced his friends down the street.
And how he...

Left 'em in the dust, quickly pulled away.
Never looking back on what he left behind that day.

He walks up the attic stairs sees all the boxes there
with mem’ries from his youth.
There, on the top of one, a ribbon from a race he'd run
when he was back at school.

He remembers standing at the Starting Line;
how his legs were shakin' till he heard the pistol fire.
