Jay Stapley came to London in 1978 after playing in local bands in the Kent/Sussex area. He became one of London’s best-known session and gigging guitarists. Jay has worked with diverse artists and producers on projects ranging from “Withnail & I”, a British black comedy film, to international tours with Roger Waters and Mike Oldfield. He has collaborated on albums for Suede, Toyah, Scott Walker, and others. Jay composes and produces in a wide range of musical genres, including Classic Rock, Blues, Americana, Country, Folk, and Electronica.
Performing and recording experience includes Guitarist, Musical Director, and Backing Vocals. Recording sessions and international tours with artists, including Roger Waters, Mike Oldfield, Suede, Scott Walker, Slim Whitman, David Allen Coe, Kirsty McColl, David Dundas, Dexy’s Midnight Runners, Westernhagen, David Mead, Henning Staerk, Toyah Wilcox, Shakin’ Stevens, Bucks Fizz, Peter Jay, Michael Kamen, Oh Laura, Athena Andreadis, and others. Film + TV soundtracks including “Withnail & I”, “How to get Ahead in Advertising”, “Hale and Pace”, and “The Duty Men”. Jay has been a producer/engineer for Westernhagen (Million-selling CDs), Ian Hunt, Wives and Servants, Lou Cowell, Pat Orchard, Bill Conlon, and Bacardi Europe Cinema Ad.
