Santi Debriano is a Panamanian-American Jazz bassist, guitarist, and composer. His abilities as an improviser, composer, and arranger have made him a favorite of such greats as Archie Shepp, Sam Rivers, Pharaoh Sanders, Oliver Lake, Kirk Lightsey, Sonny Fortune, and Freddie Hubbard. A sideman on over 100 CDs in Modern and Latin Jazz, he has produced 9 CDs of his own. He leads the bands Flash of the Spirit and Castle Magic, a trio with bassists Essiet Essiet and Harvie S. Santi Debriano teaches privately from his home on Staten Island, NY.
After achieving his BA at Union College, Santi Debriano completed graduate work at the New England Conservatory under Tiny Martin and Miroslav Vitous. He gained valuable experience after he quickly joined Archie Shepp’s quartet for four years. He relocated to New York in 1985 after a three-year stint living in Europe, where he performed regularly with the Sam Rivers Trio. Santi began working with a wide variety of musicians in the New York Jazz community. Around 1990 he began to focus on composing for the cooperative group, Panamaniacs with pianist Danilo Perez. Santi's most recent releases are a co-led collaboration with guitarist Roni Ben-Hur and drummer Duduka da Fonseca titled "Manhattan Style" on Jazzheads Records, and a series of CD productions for the French Label Malibi Jazz Company.
