Monkoora (Julie Crawford) is a dynamic producer and composer based in the UK. Routed in Hip Hop, Synth-Pop, Psychedelic Rock, and Folk, she creates otherworldly bio-mechanical soundscapes. She conjures a vivid universe in layered vocal harmonies and organic textures onto an Electronic field that occasionally feels dissonant and ominous, and later joyful and serene. Monkoora composed the music for four short ‘Survivor’ films for the charity Rape Crisis and In 2016, the Scottish Alternative Music Awards nominated her for "Best Newcomer."
Monkoora (Julie Crawford) is versatile, original and earthy. Taking elements of Hip Hop, ambient and Psychedelic Rock, she blends rusty saws, detuned autoharps, whistles, and ukuleles with crisp, lucid beats and multi-layered vocal harmonies.
In 2016, she released her mini-LP Pale Slopes, lyrically exploring sexual politics and identity, existentialist philosophy and desire. A multi-disciplined and multi-talented creator, Monkoora’s critics compared her to Bjӧrk, Kate Bush, Grimes, and Scottish contemporaries, Anna Meredith (SAY Award Winner), who handpicked Crawford for an artists’ residency in 2016.
In 2017, Monkoora debuted two tracks from her EP, Nuclear BB, with a premiere from Line of Best Fit. It received notable praise from List UK in their article highlighting the “Best New Scottish Music from April 2017” describing the closer as a miniature masterpiece.
