Songs for Seniors (Blues Tracks)

Home: Boulder, CO USA

Songs for Seniors developed after two ladies of a certain age became ticked off following an exercise class featuring Rock & Roll music. Bemoaning the lack of good songs for seniors, they tapped into a wealth of talent among friends and family, assembled male and female musicians, a lyricist, and created these 15 fun songs. From “Clutter," which you don’t have to be a senior to love, to “I've Got a Plan,” with rich baritone vocals about a retiree scheming about getting out of housework, each track is heartwarming, with music set to Tangos, Waltzes, and even one Bump & Grind!

Pat Holmberg, who teaches piano and has a beautiful voice, teamed up with her best pal, Maria Rogers, the lyricist, to create the music here. Bringing together a bushel of local talent, it was quite a feat to write, arrange, rehearse, and record these songs.

Maria Rogers wrote the songs and Pat Holmberg sang “Fashions.” Their friend and retired piano teacher, Sue Peterson, sang several other songs, while Maria's daughter, Laura Rogers, sang the poignant lyrics on “Grandma.” Male vocals were performed by Sue Peterson’s husband, Courtland Peterson, retired Dean of the University of Colorado Law School. The expert instrumentalists included Roger Topliff, retired local woodwind teacher, Jon Ericson on trombone, and Dick Weissman playing guitar and banjo. Handling the rhythm section were two retired professors from the College of Music at Colorado University, John Galm, drums, former percussion instructor, and Charles Eakin, bass, who had been a composition teacher.

Songs for Seniors expresses simple truths with a wry sense of humor rarely found in the music industry, and we hope our clients will snap them up for their films and ad campaigns!
