Producer/Re-mixer, Sound Designer, and Musician Dave L (Or-If-Is) has performed with Metal, Glitter Rock, and Jazz bands. His music or sound design has been used in 30 titles, including albums, films, video games, television, commercials, cartoons, and live theater. Originally from Los Angeles, he has shared the bill with Nina Hagen, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Redd Kross. After living and traveling in Europe, he returned to California to study Experimental composition and Classical music of India and Indonesian Gamelan genres, at the California Institute of the Arts.
It was there--and as an assistant to film composer/synthesist Michael Boddicker--that Or-If-Is became inspired by the power and potential of both the recording studio and electronic music, a genre open to fusion, crossing boundaries, and a way to simultaneously combine his interest in music and sound design. Hungry for the artistic community, international culture, and general progressiveness of San Francisco, Dave L relocated there in 1993 and started a small production studio with producer/musician Paul Scriver of Better Daze.
In 1995, after several multimedia projects and Paul's successful releases with Ubiquity Records, Dave L and Paul decided to pursue different directions going forward. Since 1996, Dave has produced music and sound design for Harmony Machine and many other companies.
