Based in Nashville, composer Duane Spencer's music ranges from highly rhythmic, pulsating, driving themes to poignant, reflective, and soulful pieces. His music also spans several international flavors that echo European, Bollywood, Middle Eastern, and Asian influences. Duane's catalog has been used on compilation releases, documentary films, retail commercials, videos, and promotional presentations. As a musician, Duane has collaborated with many notable artists, including Van Morrison, James Taylor, Carly Simon, & Felix Cavaliere.
At age 17, Duane Spencer landed a position playing drums behind Van Morrison during his "Brown-Eyed Girl" era. In the '70s, he was a member of the legendary Martha's Vineyard acoustic band, Mr. Timothy Charles Duane, playing the ukulele, guitar, drums, clarinet, trombone, and violin. In the 1980s, Duane toured the Northeast with the soca group Target Rhythm Band. He co-wrote the lullaby "Jason & Ida" with Columbia artist Kate Taylor, featuring James Taylor on guitar and vocals, Carly Simon on vocals, Will Lee on bass, and Don Grolnick on piano. Duane has played at many of the most prestigious venues in Nashville, including the Bluebird Café, BB King's, Acme Feed and Seed, and The Sutler. Eight O'Five Jive's band won the 2014 Nashville Independent Music Award. His ultimate passion is in the music that he shares with Paulette Licitra, writing, recording, and performing together in Nashville as Duette.
