Russian artist Andrey Vinogradov's virtuoso playing technique and elaborate multidimensional compositions create a unique and engaging musical atmosphere. Playing a modern hurdy-gurdy (viola) crafted by Wolfgang Weichselbaumer of Vienna, he presents a peculiar mix of ethnic, traditional, and modern musical elements. Andrey's work incorporates Russian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbian, Greek, and Austrian music, contemporary Classical, Jazz improvisations, and authentic Russian sacred chants.
Born in 1959 in Ekaterinburg (Northern Ural), Andrey Vinogradov has studied and been exposed to a variety of musical genres, from Classical and Jazz to Jazz-Rock. He has now settled down in a folky niche, where he creates his classic but a unique blend of sounds. In 1996, Andrey composed a series of songs to the verses of Russian modernist poets Soloviov, Blok, Voloshin, and Akhmatova, among others. The result was a CD called "Dryad’s Songs" featuring the vocals of Galina Lipina and Ivan Smirnov’s guitar playing.
