The Has-Been Who Never Was

So you’re alive—making through the years of hardship You’ve moved right past your prime—never in the limelight to start with. You’re always too self-absorbed, your ego too big to ignore, to make you think that you were a star, 

Chorus- In truth you always were—the has-been who never was.  Like a diva at large--- the has-been who never was.  

So now you’re 45, you bore your kids while you’re feeling  reflective. Started off,  “When I was your age..” Understand it’s not their perspective. Looking for some hidden clues, to fight off these stubborn blues, and they’re laughing as you soon drift away…

Chorus- And you know you were-- the has-been who never was.  Chasing phantoms running at large-- The has-been who never was.   
Such a neurosis, to think just like you do, when you’re surrounded for those you care for you. You should be elated, instead you’re just dated, know they love you. 

And now you’re tired. You’ve been saying that for 20 years. And what you think that matters is gone, like the moments in this song, and everyone is wondering how you can be so wrong?
